Course Objective :

• Usage of measuring instruments, hand tools and cutter.
• Basic workshop calculations.
• 5s, safety at work premises & use of PPE.
• Pre machining and post machining activities.
• CNC Lathe and Milling Machine operation and CNC Programming as per industrial practice.

Course Content :

Basics of engineering

1. Read and understand engineering drawing, Geometry of the drawing and Tolerance.
2. Types of Hand tools and use.
3. Understand different types of machining process, Tools and its use, handling of Tool holders.
4. Use of measuring instruments.
5. Types of fixtures.
6. Cutting tools & Tool holders and its use.
7. Calculation of cutting Feed, speed and cycle time.

Maintain 5S at the work premises

1. List and describe the components of personal hygiene.
2. Keep work benches or work surfaces free from un-necessary items.
3. Segregate waste in hazardous/non-hazardous waste as per the sorting work instructions.
4. Dispose waste safely.
5. Check that all material and tools are stored in the designated places and in the manner indicated in the 5S instructions.
6. Keep the workplace clean.
7. Store the cleaning material and equipment in the correct location and in good condition.
8. Follow 5S at workplace.

Maintain a safe and healthy working environment

1. Explain workplace Hazards and risks
2. List and explain the contents of the first aid kit
3. List and explain the personal protective equipment like safety gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes and safety helmet
4. Identify activities which can cause potential injury
5. Report the concerned authorities about the potential risks
6. Report the concerned authorities about machine breakdowns, damages
7. Follow the instructions given in the equipment manual
8. Follow the Safety, Health and Environment related practices
9. Operate the machine using the recommended Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
10. Maintain a clean and safe working environment
11. Maintain high standards of personal hygiene at the work place
12. Carry out waste disposal
13. Report appropriately the medical officer/ HR in case of self or an employee’s illness.

Pre-machining activities

1. Understand work order, work instruction and SOP.
2. Preparation of coolant and meat the machine conditions for operation.
3. Work preparation by deburring, clamping etc for machining.
4. Arranging the tools (prepare the tools) as per work instruction.
5. Maintain the machine as per proper operational condition by performing minor machine maintenance activities such as oiling and cleaning machine components.

Post machining activities and component inspection

1. Take out the component after machining.
2. Perform de-burring activities by following all safe work procedures, rules and instructions.
3. Inspection of components and recording.
4. Understand the machine operation and components defects.
5. Refill the coolants and lubricants in the machine reservoir.

Operation of CNC Machine

1. Understand the concept of CNC machine and axis representation.
2. Control panel and the machine operation.
3. Operation of CNC Milling and Turning machines.
4. Clamping and decamping of components.
5. Prepare & edit the program and run the machine safely.

Basic CNC Programming :

1. Basic CNC Programming
2. Fanuc CNC programming (Absolute and Incremental)
3. Work offset
4. CRC and cutter length compensation
5. Main program and subprogram
6. Canned cycles (drilling cycles)
